As a professional MLB player in Chicago Cubs, he had been played baseball more than 15 years. In his career; he played for 4 teams, including Yankees, Rangers and Nationals. In most of his career, he has battled as a lead-off hitter.
Soriano started his professional baseball career in Japan; he trained at the Carp Academy for Dominican players. His uniform number is 74 at that time, attended in 9 games and got two walks.
Soriano do not like the frequently Japanese practice schedule. And he failed to get more salary from the Carp. As there are previous player had left Japan and play for United States MLB teams, Soriano also wants to do like that, so he turned to Don Nomura for help. The first time failed to void Soriano's NPB contract for his is not old enough. Then Nomura advised him to try to attend the MLB for professional career. Before that, Nomo did the same thing and succeed. This need to apply from Carp executives and send letters to MLB teams at first. But Carp executives send letters to MLB teams and do not allow any negotiations with Soriano. And for Nomo case happened, NPB officials independently amended the Working Agreement, with no consultation from MLB teams. This makes Soriano attending MLB teams harder than ever before. MLB merely deemed Soriano as a free member in 1998.
From 1998, Soriano signed a free agent with the New York Yankees. Start in New York as a n infield player. He get the first hit in MLB game in the next year when he hit a game-winning home run against Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In 2001, he is the third place best Rookie in 2001.
The next year of 2001, Soriano break the record and set a new record of 696 bats and most 157 strikeouts in one season. In 2003, he set the record for most home runs, and be the top hits, doubles, home runs, stolen bases, and strikeouts player in that season.
In the 2004-2005 season, Soriano was traded to Texas Rangers for Yankees manager's consideration. His performances in Rangers so good that his once had six hits in nine innings, nobody had done that before. It is right the year when Soriano was selected into the All-Star Game as the starting second baseman.
And Soriano finally made a contract with Chicago Cubs for eight years, about $136 for salary. This is the most expensive in the Cub's franchise history and continues to 2014, that means Soriano need to play for Cubs at least another 3 years. He first play center field with the Cub's manager's request, at last play in the left field. Gained his first home run in the Cub's first game in May. The good thing is that Cubs always get good performance with Soriano's attending. And his performance is better in June, which gained three home runs in one game. As the harvest, he gained the "National League's Player of the Month".
Good things not continue in 2009, in which season he is not so good. But he still be good performance player in Cubs, and getter better in 2010. In the 2010 season, he attended 147 games, collected 40 doubles and 79 RBls. Also in the 2010, he hit his 300th home run off.
We all hope Soriano will do better in the new coming 2011 season in Cubs. Hope he will go further with the Cubs.
